Testing for Sexually Transmitted Infections is recommended for any who is sexually active – this includes oral, vaginal and anal sex. Some infections such as HIV and Hepatitis B & C can also be spread by sharing injection drug gear, so testing is recommended for injection drug users, too.

• Everyone between the ages of 13 – 64 should be tested for HIV at least once.*

• Sexually active individuals under 25 years, as well as older individuals with new or multiple sex partners, or partners with an STI, should be screened for chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis and HIV at least annually – more frequently with multiple or anonymous partners.

• All pregnant individuals should be tested for STIs to ensure there are not risks to the baby.

• All individuals who identify as male and engage in same-gender sexual behavior should be screened at least annually for chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis and HIV; men who have sex with multiple anonymous partners should be screened more often; every 3-6 months is recommended.

• Everyone who has a sexual encounter without using a condom and all people sharing injection drug equipment should be tested for HIV at least once a year and more frequently based on exposure.


*Teens in Oregon can consent to HIV and STI testing and treatment without a parent’s permission.

The Just Checking Clinic is now a walk-in clinic, available every Tuesday from 1:00 – 4:00 PM *, starting June 6, 2023.

These brief appointments are for individuals without symptoms and without known exposures, who are “just checking”. If you have symptoms or known exposures, please call 541-682-4041 to schedule a visit with one of our providers who will take the time to see you for testing and treatment if necessary.

Be prepared to pay $25 on the day of your visit; however, no one will be turned away for the inability to pay.

The visit will last about 30 minutes. You will be tested for chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, and HIV. Results are typically available 7-10 days following the visit.

We can provide screening for the following conditions, depending on sexual history:

• Gonorrhea
• Chlamydia
• Syphilis
• HIV (blood test only)    

What to expect at your visit depends on the type of STI services you need or want, and whether or not you have any symptoms that day.

A visit usually includes:

• Conversation (interview)

• Lab tests (such as blood, urine and/or vaginal, anal or throat swabs)

• A brief exam if you have symptoms or concerns

​Gonorrhea and chlamydia may not show up on a test for 14 days after a possible exposure. HIV and syphilis may not show up for 3 months, but can show up as early as 2 weeks.

Results are available in-person during clinic hours, or by phone Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. HIV test results are given by appointment or by phone at (541) 682-4041.

If you would like a paper copy of your results, you must show government-issued ID to pick it up at the clinic. You can sign a Release of Information (ROI) on the day of your visit to have a copy of the results mailed to you.

•Hepatitis A and B vaccinations, depending on risk factors

•HPV vaccinations available for some individuals, depending on age, risk factors and insurance status - discuss with one of our nurses.

•Free condoms and other safe sex materials

•If you have chlamydia, gonorrhea, or syphilis, we can offer treatment to you and testing & treatment to your partners, even if you were diagnosed with one of these infections somewhere else.

•If you have HIV, we offer testing to your partners and can help connect you with services and health care.

•Birth control (other than condoms)

•Pap test

•Testing and/or treatment for genital warts

•General medicine or non-STI problem help

•Blood test for Herpes

•Hepatitis B or C testing

We can share information about places in the community to obtain these services.
